Weeknight Writers is a social enterprise, a business that technically operates as a for-profit business but holds other values and goals above profit.
At Weeknight Writers, we have three core values:
- Community: Above all else, we want to help writers connect with other writers. We create spaces where folks can brainstorm together, learn together, cheer each other on, and commiserate about the struggles involved in writing and publishing.
- Inclusivity: We work hard to make our events and community spaces safe and welcoming for folks of all marginalized backgrounds. We do this by inviting marginalized folks to participate in our events and moderating our communities to keep them safe.
- Accessibility: We keep our events virtual and affordable (or even free) so the most marginalized among us can access them. We’ve also partnered with Renaissance Press to provide live captions on all Zoom panels.
We believe every writer deserves access to the community and education they need to create incredible stories and find success in publishing. Building those spaces is far more important to us than making money.
We do several things to keep Weeknight Writers in line with these values:
- Host a free weekly chat on Bluesky
- Make Storycrafting Sessions free-first, with the option to buy a paid ticket if you have the funds
- Make a significant portion of First Draft Fall programming free
- Offer a 50% discount on our Writing Roundtables to all subscribers despite having a higher overhead on these events because panelists are paid
- Publish our panel videos to YouTube for free instead of putting them behind a paywall
If you believe in these values and want to support the work we do, consider joining our Sustaining Membership Program – you’ll get access to some amazing members-only programming too!
